Recent Florida economy news has shown that consumer confidence is shaky and jobless claims are on the rise in the Sunshine State. This according to the latest Nexus 360 Economic Report, available for purchase for any of Florida’s 67 counties.
Consumer Confidence Hits New Low
According to data from the University of Florida, consumer confidence has dropped for the third consecutive month—reaching its lowest point since August 2024. This signals that Floridians are increasingly hesitant to make major purchases, which could impact spending across industries.

Jobless Claims on the Rise
Concerning as that may be, the latest unemployment report for Florida shows that jobless claims are up statewide. Upon further review by Nexus 360, we noticed a trend showing Florida’s major metro areas are the leading areas for job creation (Florida has created 144,000+ jobs year-over-year), whereas non-major metro counties are seeing stagnant or declining job growth.

A Growing Disparity: Florida Metros Create Most Jobs, Non-Metros Are Stagnant
The slides below show three east coast Florida counties, and depict how more people are standing in the unemployment line, and in two out of three counties, fewer residents are employed compared to a year ago.
